After a hiatus of a few years, the Vanquish is back - and my, what sexy form it's in. The new Vanquish is lighter, more powerful, and, yes, sexier than ever. A mix of magnesium, carbon fiber, and aluminum make up the striking exterior that takes many cues from its limited-edition, $2-million-plus One-77 big brother, which is some 50 pounds heavier than this new iteration. Its reworked 5.9-liter V-12 now makes 565 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of torque, and continues its marriage with a six-speed automatic gearbox. Changes like a new intake system, variable valve timing, and uprated compression allowed engineers to crank out more oomph, and consequently, more speed. Aston says the new Vanquish can hit 60 mph from nil in 4.1 seconds, not to mention it's been tuned and tested extensively on the venerable Nurburgring, which means it sticks very well for a relatively heavy grand tourer. Brembo carbon ceramic brakes and a three-mode adjustable suspension keep a rein on speed with excellent results. Newer, softer, higher-quality materials adorn the interior, and a 1000-watt 15-speaker, BeoSound audio system by Bang & Olufsen comes standard, as does a revamped Garmin GPS system, which continues to be somewhat of a letdown in this price category.
