Yahoo Autos Audi A3 Sedan Gets Successful Makeover, Coming to America in 2021
This is the sedan version of the redesigned Audi A3 that was first shown in hatchback form.
It will continue to serve as Audi's entry-level model in the U.S., starting in the mid-$30,000 range.
Audi says the A3 sedan will go on sale in the U.S. next year.
We like the practicality of hatchbacks, but this new sedan version of the redesigned Audi A3 is looking pretty great to our eye. This is the version of the A3 that will eventually come to the U.S. in 2021 to replace the current-generation A3 sedan that has been around since 2015.
Like its predecessor, the new model continues to ride on VW's MQB architecture, but it is now more closely related to the new eighth-generation Volkswagen Golf. Slightly longer, wider, and taller, the new A3 sedan is said to offer a bit more headroom than before. Its nicely modernized styling incorporates the single-frame grille that Audi is now using across its entire lineup. The sedan's proportions are attractive, and the interior looks to make a big jump up in technology with its standard digital gauge cluster and 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment display.
In the U.S., we think the A3 will stick with a fairly similar powertrain line up to the current model, which comes standard with a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine and front-wheel drive. Quattro all-wheel drive will be an option, and S3 and RS3 high-performance variants should follow the standard model by a few months.
The A3 will continue to compete with entry-level models from Mercedes-Benz and BMW, including the A-class, CLA-class, and 2-series Gran Coupe. Although it's likely to be a bit more expensive than the A3 it replaces, it will remain the most affordable Audi you can buy, with a starting price around $35,000.
