Audi R&D Head Suspended For Lying About TDI Scandal Under Oath

From Road & Track

In the massive, ongoing Volkswagen diesel emissions scandal, it's emerging that more and more high-level staffers at the automaker are being punished for their roles in the cover-up.

According to Reuters, Stefan Knirsch, head of research and development at Audi and member of the board of directors will be suspended from his position this coming week. Thanks to investigations by law firm Jones Day, it's been discovered Knirsch knew about the cheating software used in Audi's 3.0-liter V6 diesel engines, and lied about it while under oath.

Ironically, Knirsch replaced top VW Group engineer Ulrich Hackenberg who resigned after the TDI emissions cheat was discovered.

It's unclear whether Knirsch will ever return to his position, but for now, it seems unlikely.
