The most potent A5/S5 has been around for a few years in Europe, but only now has it arrived fashionably late in the States. Don't worry, it isn't lazy. With 450-horsepower and 317 pound-feet of naturally aspirated grunt stemming from a 4.2-liter V-8 heart, this RS model flies. Audi says it'll get to 60 mph from a standstill in only 4.5 seconds; wring out each of the S Tronic dual-clutch's seven-speeds and you'll see a 174 mph top speed, assuming there's enough pavement. More aggressive, muscular, exterior sheetmetal with numerous functional orifices, various matte- grey touches (sills, mirrors, grille), and a 0.8-inch lower ride height distinguishes the athletic coupe from lesser editions. Standard 19-inch (or optional 20-inch) wheels offer a menacing design statement while also assisting with grip. Fourteen-inch brakes kill forward momentum, but if hardcore driving is your thing, you'd best get the optional 15-inch carbon ceramic units. Another feature that will appease your inner racer: Audi's Drive Select control that modifies transmission responsiveness, suspension settings, and steering calibration based on Auto, Comfort, Dynamic, or Individual modes. Strap into the leather-wrapped Recaro sport seats to find a revised MMI interface, Nappa hides, Alcantara lining, a flat-bottom steering wheel, aluminum trim, and Audi Connect. See more... See Less
