Bad BMW Parking Job Leads To Stolen Car Bust

Bad parking jobs and BMWs seem to go together like chocolate and peanut butter. However, police in the UK got suspicious after they saw a 1 Series parked with two wheels on an island in a parking lot instead of just straddling the line between two spots.

Fender bender turns into deadly road rage in California.

Honestly, we’ve seen plenty of Bimmers park like this or worse, but we guess the sixth sense of West Yorkshire Police’s Batley & Spen Neighborhood Policing Team kicked in and they knew something was wrong. That’s some solid police work there.

Feeling something was off, which we can’t imagine why, officers ran the plates on the Bimmer only to find they were fake, reports Telegraph & Argus. In other words, their gut instinct was in fact onto something. Imagine that.

Digging further, police ascertained the BMW was in fact stolen. Likely they ran the VIN numbers, a more surefire way of identifying a vehicle instead of relying solely on the number tags. Perhaps that’s why it was displaying fake plates? That’s an obvious conclusion but it’s one police drew as well.

We see car thieves use fake plates or tags from another vehicle that hasn’t been stolen on a hot ride. The hope is police won’t realize that what’s right in front of their face doesn’t match up. Obviously their opinion of cops isn’t too high, or they’re too dumb to realize how ineffective of a plan that is with modern plate readers, yet we keep seeing this sort of thing all the time.

When thieves are done with a ride they’ve used to commit other crimes or were just using for a joyride, they often dump it however they feel like. That usually means parked all crazy like how this 1 Series was left.

But again, with the tendencies of Bimmer drivers, at least on this side of the pond, we probably would’ve figured this was some crazy way to prevent door dings or an assertion of how special the Bavarian ride is compared to all others.
