BBC's Top Gear Apparently Adds Rally Section to "Star in a Reasonably Priced Car"

From Road & Track

Many celebrity guests on BBC Top Gear's Star In a Reasonably Priced Car segment went off road while setting their hot laps (like Ed Sheeran, whose mud-flinging excursion is shown above). But now it sounds like a dirt jaunt will be mandatory: With the Chris Evans-led relaunch of Top Gear, the show has apparently added a rallycross section to its course, complete with a jump and water splash.

The news comes to us via British tabloid Radio Times, which reports that the show was given an increased budget to radically revamp the Top Gear track for Star In a Reasonably Priced Car. Apparently, the old Vauxhall Astra has been upgraded as well, with an apparently rally-inspired Mini Cooper. What was, frankly, a tired segment in recent seasons of Top Gear sounds like it could be significantly better in Season 23.

Jalopnik first noticed a tweet sent by Touring Car driver Matt Neal earlier this week that appears to show a dirt section on Top Gear's famous track.

Radio Times also reports that, starting this season, guests will take to the track two at a time, probably as driver and passenger. Jesse Eisenberg and Gordon Ramsey are slated to be the first guests to appear. Season 23 premieres on May 29th in the UK and the 30th in the U.S. We just hope they'll let The Stig loose on this new course too.
