Bicyclist hospitalized after car strikes him near Miami-Dade marina, firefighters say
A Miami-Dade County Fire Rescue helicopter ambulance made a landing in the parking lot of the busy Black Point Marina parking lot in Cutler Bay Monday night to airlift a seriously injured bicyclist.
Once on the ground, paramedics unloaded the man from the back of an awaiting ambulance and placed him in the helicopter.
A firefighter on the ground and the department’s dispatch center confirmed said the injured man was a bicyclist hit by a car.
The helicopter flew the man, whose name has not been released, to Jackson South Medical Center where he was treated for traumatic injuries, fire-rescue spokeswoman Andrea Rudchenco said Tuesday morning.
The crash happened at the 92nd block of SW 248th Street, which is the entrance to the marina, Rudchenco said.
According to a Miami-Dade police spokesman, initial reports are that the cyclist ran into the back of a car.
His condition Tuesday was not available.
