Big Country Baseball: Clyde routs TLCA behind Spurlock's no-no; Snyder, Ballinger win

Clyde stomped TLCA-San Angelo 22-0 Thursday in Clyde.

Bulldog pitcher Aiden Spurlock threw a no-hitter, allowing just one baserunner in five innings. The freshman struck out eight batters.

Offensively, every Bulldog in the starting lineup recorded a base hit. Spurlock led Clyde with four hits, while Trip Anchetta had a team-high five RBIs.

Clyde is 11-2.

Snyder at Sweetwater

Snyder earned a 15-14 win over the Mustangs on Thursday.

After trailing 12-3, Sweetwater scored 11 runs in the last three innings, but the Mustangs' comeback fell short, as they lost by one run. The Tigers recorded 10 hits as a team, and Brandt House led Snyder with three base knocks.

The Tigers improved to 10-3 overall, while Sweetwater fell to 4-7-1.

Merkel at Albany

Albany beat Merkel 5-2.

Both teams scored two runs in the first inning, but the Lions followed with three more runs in the next three innings. Albany’s Zane Waggoner had a team-high two hits, while Joey Zink led Merkel with two.

Albany is 5-2.

Ballinger at Brady

Ballinger mounted a comeback to beat the Bulldogs 9-8.

After trailing 8-0, the Bearcats scored nine unanswered runs to end the game and earn the victory. Carter Arrott led Ballinger with three hits, while Trey Matschek had a team-high three RBIs.

Ballinger is 9-2-1.

Dublin at Comanche

Comanche won a low-scoring,1-0 battle against Dublin on Friday.

Comanche’s Hudson Welch and Miguel Martinez combined for the shutout, as Welch threw six innings and earned the win. Martinez got the save, pitching a 1-2-3 seventh inning.

Comanche only logged four hits, but that was enough to get the win, as Layden Welch had a go-ahead RBI single in the bottom of the sixth. Dublin only recorded three hits as a team.

The Indians are 7-4, while the Lions are 1-10.

Stephenville vs. Lampasas, Kennedale

At home, Stephenville earned wins over Lampasas and Kennedale. The Yellow Jackets opened the weekend with a 13-2 victory over the Badgers on Friday.

The Yellow Jackets trailed 1-0 after the first inning, but Stephenville scored 10 runs in the second through fourth innings to pull away from Lampasas. Reece Elston led the Yellow Jackets with three hits and two RBIs.

Then Saturday, Stephenville beat Kennedale 10-0. Stephenville pitchers Nate Barry and Jaydon Johnson threw a combined no-hitter.

Barry got the start and threw four innings, while Johnson pitched the final two innings. They each gave up a walk.

This time, Corbin Poston led the Yellow Jackets’ offense with three hits and two runs.

Stephenville is 9-4-1.

Merkel at Grape Creek

At San Angelo, Merkel got redemption from Wednesday’s loss, as the Badgers won 18-3 over San Angelo Grape Creek.

Merkel’s Jack Travis had three hits and five RBIs to pace the Badgers’ offense. Trey Alexander got the win for Merkel, pitching six innings and allowing two earned runs.

The Badgers are 4-8.
