Because tanks aren't cheap, you know?

Arnold Schwarzenegger is selling his custom 5-ton Mercedes Unimog for $275,000

Arnold Schwarzenegger, during his stint as California's governor, spent time pushing environmentally-friendly laws, including signing into a bill that would allow the state to regulate greenhouse gases. But just because the Governator was outwardly pro-efficiency, his personal garage consisted of a diesel-guzzling Hummer H1, a Dodge M37 military truck, a gigantic 1977 custom Mercedes-Benz Unimog U1300 and an actual tank.

Oh, and a Tesla Roadster. Because California.

In all fairness, the vehicles Schwarzenegger has owned over the years (excluding the Tesla) fit his personality to perfection. His latest purchase, the M47 Patton II tank in which he made a video of himself crushing stuff, is evidently not all that cheap to run -- especially when you insist on driving over pianos, kids' bicycles and giant eggs.

Something had to give: And so, now, you can buy Arnie's monster 1977 Unimog for $275,000. It has just 1,300 miles on the clock and is for sale in Germany.

That's a lot for a '70s truck, but upon further inspection, it's not such a bad deal. Schwarzenegger reportedly bought the custom brute for $250,000 back in 2012. It might be a couple of years older now, but Arnie has signed his name on the dashboard, so there's that.

Under the hood is a 6.4-liter turbo diesel pushing 320 hp. You might think that's not a lot of power for a truck weighing five tons, and you'd be right; the Unimog tops out at about 60 mph. It's also not what you'd call "fuel efficient," managing just 12 mpg at a stretch. Still, it probably performs better than his tank. And it's more practical, featuring a flat bed complete with a built-in bench seat for three. And it'll almost certainly still crush plenty of novelty items.

So hold off on buying that shiny new Tesla, because Arnie's selling his Terminator.
