The 2013 LA Auto Show brought few major surprises. It did, however, unleash a heap of important vehicles:
Jaguar brought the F-Type Coupe, a hardtop version of its adored convertible sports car, featuring a new V-8 R model that ups power from 495 hp to a barbaric 550 hp. Subaru unveiled its much anticipated 2015 WRX, a car that was previewed earlier in the year by a stunning WRX concept. Unfortunately, the production model lacks the menacing features of the concept, although Subaru PR told us that what it lacks in looks, it gains in handling, due to a platform that's 40-percent stiffer than the outgoing model. Porsche shrunk the Cayenne, gave it a new 3.6-liter twin-turbo and called it the Macan, the German automaker's first ever crossover SUV. While Mini brought an all-new Cooper that's practically identical to the outgoing model -- only less Mini, as it grows in overall size.
And that's only scratching the surface.
Fuel-cell technology, too, was a talking point, with Hyundai debuting its hydrogen-powered Tucson and Honda unclothing the wildly stylish, although largely conceptual, FCEV concept. On the other end of the greenery, Volkswagen brought its new E-Golf, an electric version of its acclaimed hatchback. And what auto show would be complete without a few wild and wacky rides? While LA didn't boast many, it did provide the backdrop for the insane $1.1 million Youabian Puma and a real life Gran Turismo 6 car from Mercedes AMG.
