On its first day of production — March 9, 1964 — Ford Motor Co. sold more than 22,000 Mustang coupes and convertibles. The company sold more than a million copies within two years. A starting price of $2,368 didn't hurt demand (adjusted for inflation, that's $17,314 in 2012 dollars).
