If you're going to the trouble of building a 6,000-sq. ft. underground garage at a Lake Tahoe estate, as software magnate Tom Gonzales did, you might as well spring for the ultimate in car elevators, namely one that can lift a parked motorhome and holds more vehicles than most driveways. That's one way to spend $5 million.

Shot for HGTV's Million Dollar Rooms, the Gonzales' upstairs garage holds a passel of his Harley-Davidson special edition motorcycles, most of which have never been started, much less driven. (If he needs someone to ride those, I have a few suggestions.) After the big reveal of the lift, and its $25-per-button push cost in electricity, the rest of the garage seems like it could use an upgrade in tenants; Gonzales was once known for having a 400-car collection whose members, like the motorcycles, were rarely driven, but many of its highest-profile pieces have been sold in recent years, including a Ferrari F50 and a McLaren F1. Maybe all anyone needs is a fine little Chevrolet Cruze.
