The British Touring Car Championship series is some of the world's most fun-to-watch racing. The cars may not be as glamourous as the ones at LeMans or IMSA, but close battles and constant fights for the lead mean endless entertainment for anyone on the sidelines. Now, after 21 years out of the sport, BMW is back with factory support, meaning things are about to get even better.

In a press release today, BMW U.K. announced it would be joining up with West Surrey Racing to compete for victory in the 2017 British Touring Car Championship series. West Surrey Racing has been fielding BMWs privately since 2007, but this is the first time it will receive any significant factory support.

Team BMW will field three 125i M Sport hatchbacks for the 2017 season, each with full technical support, and matching M-motorsport striped livery. The cars will use a 2.0-liter four cylinder engine and make around 350 horsepower, as per BTCC's regulations.

BMW and West Surrey Racing have put together an impressive driver team as well. It's enlisted BTCC champions Colin Turkingston and Andrew Jordan, as well as veteran racer Rob Collard.

With drivers like that and full factory support, Team BMW should make for one hell of a competitor this year. We can't wait to watch the season unfold.
