This Book Is 256 Pages of Gorgeous Car PhotosBenedict Redgrove

Recently, one of our longtime freelance photographers, Benedict Redgrove, reached out to see if I was interested in looking at a book project he had begun. The book, "Auto Photo Manual," is his personal project, a 256-page collection of automotive images and stories from over 20 years including vehicles from brands like Aston Martin, McLaren, Roborace, Giugiaro, Bertone, Pininfarina and more.

I've been a fan of Benedict’s work for many years; the photography for his book “NASA– Past and Present Dreams of the Future,” for example, is what I'd describe as iconic. Over the last few years, I've had the chance to work with him on several stories for Road & Track. We are truly lucky here at R&T to work with many amazing photographers; Benedict is one of those gifted artists whose work is truly stunning.

But this book does something rather unique in the world we live in today. We're used to seeing one image at a time, or a small gallery of images flash in front of us on our cellphones, but rarely does the view see complete sets of pictures from projects — page after page showing the beauty of every detail of each subject. This book showcases Benedict's ability to make every photograph feel intimate; he sees the beauty in the design of every car.

The book also provides first-hand accounts of how these images were captured, with behind-the-scenes photos, personal anecdotes detailing the conception and creation of each shoot, and technical pre- and post-production information. It's a glimpse behind the curtain.
