Buy This 1971 Ferrari Dino 246 GT Because There Isn't Enough Beauty In Your Life

From Road & Track

Some cars are so pretty, it's difficult to wrap your head around them. A Ferrari Dino, especially in European-market fixed-roof GT spec like this particular example, is one such car. It's the sort of car you could spend hours just staring at, but thankfully, the Dino is a great drive too. This one is up for auction, and you need it in your life.

Bring a Trailer, which purchased this Dino in 2013, has it listed for sale on its auction site. It's a 1971 coupe with a little under 60,000 miles on the clock and is said to be in great condition with a few cosmetic blemishes. As it was originally a Euro-market car, it makes 20 more ponies than the U.S.-spec Dino 246 for a total of 195 horsepower, as well as covered headlights.

This Dino started its life in Germany, before being sold to a California buyer in the mid-1970s. From 1996 to 2013, it lived in Japan before being purchased by Bring a Trailer. It doesn't seem to have undergone a full restoration, but has been well taken care of over its lifetime.

Bring a Trailer says that it purchased this Dino "great condition but with enough imperfections that it was a good candidate for actual driving," which is perfect for this sort of car. It might not be a concours winner, but it's much more fun to drive a Dino than park it on a golf course lawn.

The 246 Dino was long considered a poor relation because it wasn't originally sold as a Ferrari, but collectors realized that it's a gorgeous car regardless of the badging, and values climbed. Bidding is currently up to $175,000, but don't be surprised if this climbs much closer to $300,000 by the auction close.

Expensive? Absolutely, but it's a work of art with a 195-horse V6 and a five-speed manual transmission. I'd certainly buy this over a painting.
