After Group B was finished, Lancia started building all-wheel drive turbos for the public in order to homologate its Delta hatchback, which then ended up scoring six World Rally Championships between 1987 and 1992. The party started with the Delta HF 4WD in 1986, which got upgraded to Integrale-spec in 1987, the year of the Ferrari F40 (and the Rabbit, if you're Chinese).

The Integrale 8V was followed by the 16-valve version, which was succeeded by the faster and bolder Evoluzione. But perhaps the most desirable version of all street Deltas is the Evo II, introduced in 1993 and produced for barely more than a year.

With its bigger wheels and everything else, the Evoluzione II Sedici marked the end of the line for the first-generation Lancia Delta, going out with a 212 horsepower bang that could be dialed up much higher by those in the know.

This particular Evo II is offered now by Silverstone Auctions straight out of Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay's ever-changing car collection. The auctioneer describes it as a car that was originally supplied to Italy, only to get imported into the UK in 2000. Jay Kay acquired it nine years later, only to send it to a complete engine rebuild after a misfire in January this year. After spending $10,690 on a block rebore, cylinder head skimming, polished crankshaft bearing journals, new forged pistons and new bearings all round, he decided to part with the car anyway, probably making some space for something even more exotic.

His loss can be your gain, and although I'm sure there are cheaper Evo IIs out there sans the celebrity pedigree, not many come with an engine that's "still running in."
