Chevy Corvette Zora Spied Testing with Big Wing, Possibly 1200-Plus HP

• New spy photos show the upcoming Chevrolet Corvette Zora testing at the Nüburgring.

• Chevy's new halo car sports the same massive rear wing and intake-riddled widebody to match the ZR1.

• We expect the Zora to pair the E-Ray's hybrid system with the ZR1's 1064-hp twin-turbocharged V-8, which could combine for over 1200 hp.

If new spy photos of the Chevy Corvette Zora are any indication, the engineers on the Corvette team are on a one-way trip to Horsepowerville. While the recently revealed ZR1 already bumps up against the hypercar guardrails, the promised Zora (its official name hasn't yet been confirmed) appears poised to break them down. Our newest crop of spy photos shows the Zora shaking down at the Nürburgring.

The new 'Vette sports the same huge rear wing and widebody kit as the ZR1—complete with the additional side-pod intakes to cool the rear brakes. As with the ZR1, there's a huge splitter attached to the front of the car and an obligatory quad exhaust out back.

We expect the Zora to feature the Corvette E-Ray's hybrid system, which sits on the front axle and powers the front wheels. The e-motor produces 160 horsepower, with juice sourced from a 1.1-kWh battery pack. Unlike the E-Ray, which uses the Stingray's 495-hp 6.2-liter V-8, the Zora is expected to adopt the ZR1's wild flat-plane-crank twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V-8 that spits out 1064 horses. If the math is as simple as adding the two together, we can expect 1224 horsepower. Whatever the final power figure is, the Zora is sure to be more powerful than the ZR1, and the AWD system could help the Corvette encroach on the 2.0-second zero-to-60-mph mark.
