CHP Is Doing A Monterey Car Week Speeding Crackdown

Monterey Car Week draws all kinds of enthusiasts from around the world as they seek to be a part of the epic gathering. There’s a little bit of something for everyone, whether you’re into American muscle, exotics, or pre-war classics. However, one thing that’s a universal problem in the area is speeding and California Highway Patrol is looking to bring that to a close.

Road rager brings a hammer to a gunfight.

Officers are on the prowl for speeders from Simi Valley to Santa Cruz, reports the Santa Barbara Independent, and CHP wants those attending this year’s events to know what’s coming. In other words, if we were driving in the area, we would stay at or maybe even just below the speed limit for fear of being made an example.

Of course, Monterey Car Week has been a bit of a problem when it comes to speeding. Enthusiasts will take their performance rides to show off and while enjoying the excitement perhaps get carried away.

What really presents a challenge are the truly powerful rides which can leave a CHP officer looking like he’s standing still. There’s a plan in place in case someone in a Dodge Hellcat or McLaren 720S drops the hammer, and it involves aerial units as well as cops spread all over the place.

In other words, you can run but you can’t outrun the radio or a thermal camera up in the air.

While there were no major incidents last year, and most people just pull over for police during Monterey Car Week, CHP isn’t taking chances. We all know what can happen when someone decides to push their ride north of 150 mph to try evading law enforcement.

Our advice is to be on your best behavior if you’re in Monterey or even just the area this week. Relax, enjoy the atmosphere and different events, and be content to cruise at a lawful speed.
