Corvette Owner Returns to Car, Finds Stranger Trapped Inside
A C8-generation Chevy Corvette owner in Miami Beach found himself in an unusual situation earlier this week, when he returned to his parked sports car – only to find a man he didn't know trapped inside, pleading to be released. Instead, and unsurprisingly, the cops were called, as Miami-based news outlet WPLG reported.
According to WPLG, on Monday morning, Julio Solano parked his Corvette in a garage located on Washington Avenue in South Beach and walked to breakfast. When he returned, he says saw a man, who police later identified as 33-year-old Ravesh Rabindranauth, pop his head up from under the dash as he approached his car. Solano says he was stunned at first, but quickly began to record the incident.
“My brother. This is not your car, this is my car,” Solano said to the man trapped inside.
"Can I get out?" Rabindranauth can be heard saying in the cell phone video.
“No, you can’t get out," Solano replied. "We’re calling the cops.”
Apparently, Rabindranauth had no idea how to open the door of the C8 'Vette, which uses electronic door releases inside. Without the key and without the car powered on, those switches are inoperable, causing the suspect to wind up stuck in the vehicle. (The C8 does have a manual release, but it's somewhat hidden on the floor by the mats.)
Miami Beach police arrived soon after Solano, and took the suspect into custody. Rabindranauth is facing one count of burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, according to jail records, with bond was set at $2,500.
It's not clear whether the Corvette was locked when the suspect entered it, or how exactly he managed to gain entry. However, Solano is using this incident to remind others to be mindful when they are getting in and out of their own cars. “When you’re getting in and out of your car, be vigilant, be alert of your surroundings,” Solano says.
