Dirt Late Model All-Time Great Scott Bloomquist Dies in Plane Crash
Dirt Late Model all-time great Scott Bloomquist was killed Friday morning in a plane crash near his home in Mooresburg, Tenn.
According to multiple reports, the 60-year-old racer died in a crash on his property of a small plane he was piloting.
Bloomquist won multiple championships, including the 2004 World of Outlaws Late Model crown. He had 94 career Lucas Oil Late Model Series wins and 33 in the World of Outlaws Late Model Dirt Series.
He was inducted into the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame in 2002.
Bloomquist also made starts in the ARCA Menards series, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, and he started a 2021 race at Knoxville, Iowa, in the Superstar Racing Experience all-star series co-founded by Tony Stewart.
"Don't ever take anything for granted," fellow racer Rico Abreu posted on X. "It all can be gone so fast. It’s a sad day in the racing community. Scott Bloomquist was an icon. He did what he wanted, said what he wanted, and won races. I'll forever cherish this moment with Mr. Black Sunshine. Rest easy, Outlaw."
