The most exciting comeback story of the year is now getting its own musical. Mexican Pizza: The Musical follows the journey of the titular Taco Bell dish, which that was retired back in 2020 to the dismay of its passionate fanbase. Two years after entering the fast food graveyard, a renewed campaign to revive the Mexican Pizza took over the Internet with Grammy-winning rapper Doja Cat posting a viral verse on TikTok about the beloved dish.

Now, the viral phenomenon is getting adapted for the stage, and will feature Doja Cat, TikToker Victor Kunda, and beloved country singer Dolly Parton. Parton, who is a proud Mexican Pizza super fan, posted a sneak peek of the script on her Instagram Monday.

Taco Bell described the musical in a press release as a “satirical musical about the 'harrowing' story of those who fought to bring back the Mexican Pizza."

In 1985, international chain Taco Bell first launched the unlikely fan favorite: a crispy tortilla crust layered with plenty of beans, pizza sauce, meat, and cheese. When Taco Bell pulled it from the menu 25 years later, fans mourned the loss of the Mexican Pizza and had to rely on copycat recipes (like ours!) to fill the void.

To recount the tale, Taco Bell tapped Hannah Friedman to write the script. TikTok musical veterans Barlow and Bear created the musical score for the show.

Fans rejoiced over the news on social media, some with a few "cheesy" puns.

Mexican Pizza: The Musical premieres on TikTok on May 26 at 8 P.M. E.T.
