Dolphins Wide Receiver Tyreek Hill Handcuffed By Police, Not Arrested

A police officer is on paid administrative leave after NFL player Tyreek Hill, a star wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins, was pulled over and handcuffed yesterday. Someone took cellphone video of the incident, which happened right outside Hard Rock Stadium on the morning if September 8, just hours before the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Raiders player cut from team after getting arrested for DUI.

Now there are questions about what led up to the traffic stop and detainment of the professional athlete. The footage shows several motorcycle officers standing outside Hill’s McLaren as it idles on the side of the road. Hill has his window cracked only a little as one officer is talking loudly, telling the football player to roll his window down all the way.

After Hill doesn’t comply with the order, the officer orders him out of the supercar. The officer’s body language shows he’s ready for a fight. Later, we see Hill facedown on the pavement as police handcuff him.

Exactly what led to the traffic stop or Hill getting handcuffed isn’t clear. We’d be willing to bet the police department is in full legal liability control mode at this point since a lawsuit could be imminent. We do know Hill was ultimately cited for reckless driving.

In a press conference after the game, Tyreek Hill didn’t comment much on what happened, but did clarify he “wasn’t disrespectful” to the officers. In other words, we have no idea what really went on. He did hint that racism might have been a factor.

What’s even more bizarre is fellow Miami Dolphins teammate Calais Campbell stopped on the side of the road to check on Hill and was handcuffed as well. Again, the circumstances surrounding his detainment aren’t clear, something to do with being too close to the officers from what Campbell said to the press, but we imagine police are trying to figure things out and cover bases.
