Are you one of the lucky folks approved by Ford to purchase an all-new GT? Better bring a big briefcase to your local dealership-Ford demands a 50-percent down payment when you finalize your order.

This news comes to us from Brooks, the host of YouTube channel DragTimes, though Scottish singer and accidental GT recipient Amy Macdonald hinted at it as well last week. The down payment is just one facet of a long and complex application and ordering process that starts with a GT concierge and ends with you taking delivery at the Ford dealer of your choice.

And as we found out in our first ride in the new GT last week, the GT starts out at $450,000. Add in options on the online configurator, like a custom color and stripe combination and carbon-fiber wheels, and you'll easily push that price tag up to half a million dollars, Ford chief technical officer Raj Nair informed R&T.

So the rock stars and YouTube vloggers on the short list for the first 500 GTs will all have to pony up something between $225,000 and $250,000 up front before they can slide their Ford-approved behinds into that not-terribly-roomy cockpit. As for you and me? Well, if you haven't received a letter from Ford congratulating you on your membership in the GT family, at least you don't have to find a quarter-million bucks to bring to your blue oval store. I don't, and frankly, I'm relieved.
