Friday night, during Disney's D23 204 release, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson announced that his next project with Disney would be a live-action film about Monster Jam.

The working title for the film is simply Monster Jam, following in Apple's and Brad Pitt's F1 footsteps.

A release date is not yet known, but the project is currently in production. The Rock referenced his love of his pickup trucks and motorsports as the catalyst for making this film. Earlier this year at Daytona, Johnson took in the excitement of NASCAR as the grand marshal for the Daytona 500.

"I’m so excited to break the news to you guys," Johnson said from the D23 stage. "As you guys know, I’m a pickup truck man. That’s all I drive. I drove my pickup truck here. It’s out back. You guys know that, and I love motorsports, love monster trucks."

The Rock's car collection is, in reality, a little bit more than just pickup trucks, but the sentiment remains.

Johnson announced the film by telling the audience, "Ladies and Gentlemen, I want you to take a look at our next big jam."

Then pyrotechnics went off on stage, and the screen then showed clips from the most recent Monster Jam season, which concluded their World Finals on May 18th at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

The Disney and Monster Jam connection isn't much of a reach when you realize that Disney on Ice and Monster Jam are both part of the Feld Entertainment umbrella based in Tampa, Florida, just 90 minutes away from Disney World.

The series itself has not yet released its involvement in the film, Road & Track has reached out and will update this story with developments.

Monster Jam is known for pairing racing and tricks with character-building. Trucks such as Grave Digger and Max-D have been part of the cultural zeitgeist for decades. This is their chance to shine on the big screen.
