Edison’s Alexandra Harris is Herald’s Miami-Dade County Flag Football Player of the Year

Alexandra Harris was long the glue for some great Edison teams and she did some of everything for the Red Raiders during a spectacular senior season this year.

She went 28 of 41 for 605 yards, 11 touchdowns and only four interceptions as a passer.

She ran for 760 yards and 14 touchdowns on 56 carries, and had 53 catches for 964 yards and eight more touchdowns as a receiver.

There were also the defensive contributions: 130 flag pulls, six sacks and five interceptions.

There was no question: Harris is the Miami Herald’s Miami-Dade County Flag Football Player of the Year.

In total, Harris piled up 2,754 all-purpose yards and scored 41 touchdowns as a senior to lead Edison to yet another final four. The Red Raiders won Region 4-1A, and got to the state semifinals for the third straight year and sixth time in seven seasons.

“I’m proud of everything,” she said.

Coach Vince Hall was most proud of what she did away from the field and in the locker room.

“What makes her so special is her leadership on the field,” said Hall, who was also the Herald’s Miami-Dade County Flag Football Coach of the Year. “She leads by example. Not only is she a great player, she works hard. She listens to everything that we say that she needs to do and she does it. She’s the first one at practice and she’s the last one to leave.”

Of course, her production was special, too.

At any one position, Harris would have been one of the best in South Florida. Instead, she finished her final season Miami ranked among the top 30 in Florida in rushing yards, receiving yards, scoring, touchdowns and tackles, and the top 50 in the state in total yards.

She was versatile enough to do just about everything and elite at everything she did.
