This“ Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” Cocktail at AMC Theatres Is Going Viral for Costing $31
“It better be bottomless for $31," wrote one critic.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice fans can sip on a themed cocktail while watching the new movie.
AMC Theatres is selling a “Sandworm Slayer” cocktail in a nod to a creature in the long-awaited sequel starring Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara, Jenna Ortega and Michael Keaton.
The very blue iced cocktail is made with raspberry flavor and vodka and topped with sour candy worms, according to the AMC website. However, it’s not the colorful nature of the drink that is catching fan’s attention — it’s the price.
Social media users have shared photos of their adult beverages in theaters, while also expressing their shock at the price, which several have claimed is anywhere between $21 and $31.
One user, Andrew Woods, is going viral on X for sharing a photo of his Sandworm Slayer on the platform.
“I bought the AMC BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE themed drink. It cost $31 dollars…” he wrote on the post that has almost 7 million views.
One person commented, “That's just blue Kool-Aid with Gummy Worms on top,” while another quipped, “It better be bottomless for $31.”
AMC did not respond to PEOPLE's request for comment but told The Hollywood Reporter that the drink "sold very well" during the movie's premiere weekend. They added that the price varies by location but most theaters (92 percent to be exact) charge $21.
The movie theater chain is selling more Beetlejuice Beetlejuice concession collectibles including black and white-striped popcorn buckets, reusable soda cups and a “Recently Deceased Book” snack holder.
Tim Burton’s follow-up to his comedy-horror classic about the afterlife and its wildest demon is now in theaters. And the new iteration has several nods to the original 1988 film.
For starters, Keaton, Ryder and O’Hara all reprise their roles. Ortega joined the cast as Ryder’s character’s daughter – and their off-screen chemistry was also magnetic.
In an August interview for The New York Times' The Interview podcast, Ortega, 21, opened up about meeting Ryder, 52.
“She was so warm and welcoming and kind and inviting right from the jump, and I couldn’t be more grateful,” Ortega said of Ryder.
“It was at a time where my career was taking a different turn,” Ortega continued, adding that she “didn’t realize that I needed that from somebody who could relate, but I did.”
Ryder echoed Ortega’s sentiments about their friendship while speaking with Screen Rant about the Beetlejuice sequel.
“I don't think I've ever bonded with someone like I did with Jenna,” she told the outlet. “It was insane.”
