Esteban Ocon Will Join Haas F1 Next Year
The Haas Formula 1 team has a completely new lineup for 2025. Ferrari junior and 2024 Saudi Arabian GP star Ollie Bearman will be joined by veteran driver Esteban Ocon at the American team next season.
When he joins the team, Ocon will become the first F1 race-winner to ever drive for Haas. His lone win came at Hungary in 2021, making him the only driver with a win at the current form of Alpine. Other career highlights include two other podium finishes at the F1 level, the 2014 Formula 3 championship, and the 2015 GP3 championship. Both of those junior series titles were earned in Ocon's first year in those series, and his GP3 title was notably earned with 14 podium finishes in 18 races. Nine of those podiums were consecutive runner-up finishes, but there are no bonus points for that.
Ocon replaces Kevin Magnussen, who leaves the team after seven seasons spread out over eight years. Magnussen was the team's leading scorer in 2018, the only season that Haas F1 ever finished in the top half of the constructor's standings. His 2018 season is also the only one by any Haas driver to end in the top 10 of the driver's standings. Magnussen currently sits in 16th in the driver's championship, scoring points in just two of the year's first 13 grands prix.
Haas has 27 points this season, enough for a relatively strong seventh place in the constructor's standings. Ocon has just three points, although his Alpine teammate Pierre Gasly has only six points himself. Next year, both Haas and Ocon will hope to move into the heart of the mid-field a— nd get back to competing for podium finishes.
