Ex-Atlantic High School teacher accused of lewd conduct makes bail
A former Atlantic High School teacher accused of inappropriate behavior with a student posted bail on Friday and was released from the Volusia County Branch Jail, according to records.
Arin Hankerd, 42, of Ormond Beach, is charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious molestation of a person 12 or older but younger than 16; traveling to meet a minor; using a computer for lewd and lascivious exhibition by a person 18 years or older to a victim less than 16 years old; and offense against a student by authority figure.
Hankerd is accused of having inappropriate contact, including inappropriate touching, with a 15-year-old student at Atlantic High School.

Hankerd posted bail and was released from the Volusia County Branch Jail at 1:26 p.m., according to the jail’s website. Hankerd was being held on $250,000 bond.
The Port Orange Police Department is investigating four other cases involving Hankerd and girls he met at high schools. Hankerd was a teacher at Mainland High School in Daytona Beach before going to Atlantic High School in Port Orange.
Hankerd was briefly held on $115,000 bond following his arrest on Sunday. But then his bond was revoked after the State Attorney’s Office indicated it would request pre-trial detention.
Assistant State Attorney Ashley Terwilleger said during a hearing Wednesday that there was no reasonable way to protect the community from Hankerd. She asked that he remain locked up while his case went through the court system.
Hankerd’s defense attorney, Aaron Delgado, said that people accused of similar crimes were routinely released with conditions.
Foxman increased the bail to $250,000 and ordered a number of conditions Hankerd must abide by now that he's been released:
Report weekly to pre-trial services.
Electronic monitoring.
Adhere to a curfew of 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
No internet access.
Stay away from places where children congregate.
The judge also ruled that Hankerd can only have supervised visits with his own minor children, a boy and a girl, ages 10 and 12, and cannot be alone in a room with them.
Typically, if Hankerd used a bail bondsman, he would be required to pay a non-refundable fee of 10% of the bond, or $25,000 in this case. Someone can also put up collateral, such as a house or car.
"Hankerd's was a very safe bond since he must report to pre-trial services every week, adhere to a curfew and wear an electronic monitor," Delgado, his attorney, said.
"The electronic monitoring is worth its weight in gold," Delgado said.
