F1 Safety Car Crashes into Barriers at Monza
There was also an unusual situation at Monza—site of this weekend's Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix—on Thursday as the Safety Car crashed into the barriers.
Every Thursday there is a one-hour window at which the Safety Car and Medical Car complete laps of the track, as part of preparations for the remainder of the weekend.
Regular Safety Car driver Bernd Maylander spun the Aston Martin Vantage into the barriers at Parabolica after a suspected mechanical failure.
The FIA brings back-up Safety Cars and Medical Cars to each event and consequently it will not impact the remainder of the weekend; both Maylander and his passenger were uninjured.
