A young Colorado family is hurting after someone stole the husband’s work truck and all the tools for his fledgling contracting company. With their livelihood at stake, they took to Facebook Marketplace and found at least some of the stolen items listed by the same seller. But police were uninterested in helping them get their stuff back.
Someone drove their C8 Corvette into the Caribbean Sea.
This is the kind of story that makes our blood boil. After all, you can be working hard to make ends meet, then someone comes along and steals your hard-earned possessions, then police just blow it off like it’s no big deal. And that’s where the story ends for a lot of people.
But this couple decided to set up a meet with the seller. Fortunately, they didn’t confront the guy but instead took photos of him, his truck, and the license plate. Then they turned that info over to police in Federal Heights, where they live, reports KDVR.
Like what happens far too often, police told the couple there was nothing they could do. The family alleges police claimed there was no way to prove the stolen items were theirs. But the victims had the serial numbers from the different tools, plus the truck VIN. And the husband made special modifications to the tools, which were visible in the Facebook Marketplace listings.
Basically, this comes down to police either not caring about a case because they’re jaded or being overwhelmed because there’s so much crime. Or maybe a combination, we don’t know. What we do know is to the young family these items represent their livelihood. To them it’s of upmost importance.
We often wonder how many stolen items are listed on Facebook Marketplace, but there’s no way of knowing for sure. But we sure wonder about that one since we see stories like this one way more than you might imagine.
Thankfully, the family contacted the mayor about being blown off by police and a sergeant reached out to help shortly after. Sometimes you have to chase up the line of command to get someone to care. Now it sounds like police are helping to recover the stuff. But will the thief face some serious consequences instead of just a slap on the wrist? We hope so.
