Fayetteville Tech will increase security after threat on social media

Fayetteville Technical Community College has received a threat through social media and will operate under heightened security measures on Monday, according to a news release on Sunday afternoon.

College officials are taking the situation seriously, have informed students, faculty and staff and are working with the Fayetteville Police Department, the release states.

Classes are scheduled for their normal times and locations on Monday, according to the release.

The increased security measures will include limited access to buildings, with main doors as the only public points of entry, “as during the COVID-19 pandemic,” the release states.

Other measures include:

-Increased presence of campus security and police on FTCC property; and

-Required and visible display of college ID badges by FTCC faculty and staff, at all times.

“The College is urging students, faculty, staff and visitors to be security-conscious at all times,” the release states.

The FTCC community is encouraged to be aware of their surroundings, walk with friends or co-workers when possible and to “trust your intuition.”

Students, faculty, staff and visitors are encouraged to call FTCC security at 910-678-8433, if they see something that makes them uncomfortable, and 911 in an emergency. They are additionally encouraged to add FTCC security to their mobile phone contacts and opt in for faytext alerts at this link.

Anyone with information on the threats should contact the FTCC security office at the number above or the Fayetteville Police Department at 910-433-1529 (non-emergency.)
