A Porsche Cayenne owner living west of Toronto is lucky to be alive after he was run over by a woman pretending to be interested in buying the vehicle listed for sale on the internet. We’ve seen this sort of thing many times before, but this theft is particularly violent, shocking many.
Men fake interest in Ferrari for sale, stealing it at gunpoint.
Selling a car online can be a nuisance, with buyers flaking out and such, but these days it can also come with safety risks. That’s especially true with high-value vehicles like the Porsche Cayenne the victim put up for sale on Auto Trader.
As captured on doorbell video, a young woman shows up asking about the luxury crossover, saying her dad is also coming to look but will be late. She’s dressed nicely and has good manners, so that probably got the owner to let his guard down.
He steps outside with the Porsche and turns it on, with the woman in the driver’s seat. Then he gets out to look at something around the back of the vehicle. That’s when the thief throws the transmission into reverse and guns it down the driveway, running the owner over.
The victim is apparently okay, suffering only minor injuries, so he’s lucky. But it could have ended so much worse.
We’ve seen people killed for the car they’ve listed online, as well as people held at gunpoint. But many times supposed shoppers just drive off with the vehicle for a test drive and never return. There are many pitfalls to selling your ride yourself, which is why so many choose to just trade theirs in, getting less money but avoiding all the other stuff.
If you decide to sell your car online, keep your guard up and document everything you can. And remember, car thieves these days feel rather emboldened, like this young woman.
