LAS CRUCES - The state announced multiple surge COVID-19 testing locations, including the Las Cruces Public Schools Field of Dreams west parking lot, opening to the public this week.

The New Mexico Department of Health reports the testing sites can administer up to 1,000 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests a day and are being set up "in response to critical numbers of COVID-19 case counts and a shortage of available tests in New Mexico."

The drive-up testing sites will be open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Testing began Wednesday, Feb. 2 and continues until Feb. 21.
