Two adults and two children from the same family were killed in a fiery street racing crash in Grand Prairie, Texas on the night of August 10. An additional child is in critical condition. Footage of the aftermath serves as a shocking display of why racing on public roads is dangerous, selfish, and reprehensible.

Watch a Mercedes electric car suddenly explode in a parking garage.

Footage of the crash aftermath not only showed a raging fire, which apparently took a bit for firefighters to extinguish, but also a couple of crashed cars. One is a red Dodge Charger, the other we can only see on its side with fire damage. It’s assumed these were the racers’ vehicles.

Also shown is some type of SUV that’s also badly burned. It’s a safe bet to assume that belongs to the family which lost four members in the blink of an eye. We can’t imagine the pain that loss has brought to the family.

People in the area told a reporter from Fox 4 speeding and racing is a big problem on that stretch of road. You probably have an area like this where you live. Sooner or later the “harmless fun” will end poorly, perhaps ending lives like this crash did.

This is why we say take your car to the track if you want to prove its performance chops.

We don’t care how fast you think your car is. We don’t care how on point you believe your driving skills are. Nobody should be racing on public streets, especially in areas where there are plenty of other vehicles. Families like this one, along with countless other people are just trying to live their lives and go where they need to be.

Your need for speed needs to play out on a closed course, not on the road everyone shares.
