First Images: Formula E Reveals Gen3 Race Car in Monaco
All-electric Gen3 race car was revealed at the Yacht Club de Monaco today, ahead of this weekend’s Monaco E-Prix.
Formula E lays claim to the first net zero-carbon race car in the world’s first net zero-carbon sport.
The Gen3 is the fastest Formula E car yet, the first with a top speed at more than 200 mph.
With the emphasis on speed and sustainability, the FIA and Formula E unveiled its Generation 3 car today in Monaco, ahead of this weekend's Round 6 of the 2021-22 Formula E season.
The all-electric race plans to use the new car in 2023, which will be the ninth season of the revolutionary street-racing series.
According to Formula E officials, the Gen3 is the "pinnacle of high performance, efficiency and sustainability and pioneers cutting-edge technologies that will make the transfer from race to road."
“Both technologically and environmentally, Gen3 sets new standards in the sport," said FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem. "The FIA and Formula E development teams have done a superb job, and I thank them for their hard work on this project. I am delighted to see so many leading manufacturers already signed up to the championship’s next era and await Gen3’s competitive debut in Season 9 with great anticipation.”
Seven manufacturers plan to race the Gen3 in Season 9 of the ABB FIA World Championship, including DS Automobiles (France), Jaguar (UK), Mahindra Racing (India), Maserati (Italy), NIO 333 (UK/China), Nissan (Japan), and Porsche (Germany).
