A Louisiana fisherman spotted a sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro in the river while fishing on Sunday afternoon. The Camaro was reported stolen earlier that weekend and was found unoccupied, according to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office (NPSO).

The Red River in Louisiana is known for its catfish, bass, and other sought-after game fish population. However, a local fisherman spotted a far rarer sight in those waters—an American sports car. It was about 2:30 on Sunday afternoon when a relaxing fishing trip turned into the start of a criminal investigation. A white, 2020 Camaro was spotted partially submerged near the shoreline. Based on what we can see in the images, it appears to be an LT1 V-8-powered Camaro SS.

NPSO divers, with the assistance of a Red River Parish towing service, worked together to recover the Camaro from the Red River. After recovery, the VIN was run through the National Crime Information Center where it came back as stolen. According to police, this area of the Red River is known to be a dumping ground for vehicles as others have been recovered from here in the past.

2024 was the final model year for the sixth-generation Camaro. The final Camaro built rolled off the assembly line in December 2023. The 650-horsepower ZL1 1LE was capable of putting down lap times that could match supercars. And the 455-horsepower SS model with a glorious 6.2-liter V8 was no slouch either. Available with a manual six-speed transmission the Camaro had all the ingredients for a special driving experience. Enthusiasts were sad to see it go and felt it deserved a better fate.

The Camaro SS found floating in the Red River certainly deserved better too. The police investigation is ongoing.
