Flight change at Worcester Regional Airport: American to move Philly route to JFK in NYC
WORCESTER — American Airlines is switching the destination of its Worcester Regional Airport flights from Philadelphia to JFK International Airport in New York beginning in January.
"We see this change as a positive move for business and leisure travelers to and from Worcester,” Massport spokeswoman Jennifer Mehigan said Wednesday. “Together with JetBlue’s flights to JFK and Delta’s flight to LaGuardia, this ultimately means more opportunities for people in Central Massachusetts to travel anywhere around the world just one stop away.”
The change means that there will now be three daily flights between Worcester (ORH) and JFK as well as a daily flight to LaGuardia from Worcester.
The JetBlue flights between Worcester and JFK depart ORH at 7:30 a.m. and 2:39 p.m., The American flight will depart at 4:10 p.m. A partnership between the two airlines enables travelers to use either airline to book flights.
The route adjustment provides Central Massachusetts customers with convenient access to the New York’s largest network—which offers connectivity to nearly 150 global destinations serviced by American and our Northeast Alliance partner, JetBlue," American Spokesman Andrew Trull said in a statement Wednesday evening. "Additionally, the adjustment allows American to up-gauge service from a 50-seat ERJ-145 to the 76-seat Embraer E-175, which offers customers a premium two-class cabin on every flight.”
The changes go into effect Jan. 5, according to the airline’s booking website.
