Ford F-150 Lightning SuperTruck to Compete in 2024 Pikes Peak Hill Climb

Ford Performance is set to make a powerful return to the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with its latest electric vehicle demonstrator, the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck. This marks Ford’s second consecutive year competing at the historic event with an EV, following last year’s record-breaking performance with the SuperVan 4.2. The 2024 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, presented by Gran Turismo, will feature the SuperTruck driven by veteran racer and current overall record holder Romain Dumas.

The F-150 Lightning SuperTruck has been meticulously designed to tackle the extreme conditions of Pikes Peak. Developed in collaboration with Ford Design and STARD Advanced Research and Development, this vehicle boasts advanced aerodynamics and optimized electric motors. The SuperTruck generates an impressive 6,000 pounds of downforce at 150 mph and is powered by three STARD UHP 6-Phase Motors coupled with Ultra-High Performance Li-Polymer NMC cells, delivering over 1400 horsepower.

Aerodynamic enhancements include a triple-element front wing, headlight ducts, hood ducts and louvers, front dive-planes, side diffusers, rear diffuser, and a multi-element rear wing. The truck is equipped with carbon ceramic brakes, Pirelli P-Zero tires on magnesium forged wheels, and a custom in-board suspension system. These features collectively aim to provide optimal performance on the treacherous mountain course.

Romain Dumas, who will be piloting the SuperTruck, is excited about the upcoming challenge. “After a successful 2023 climb, I’m thrilled to be behind the wheel again with this team and to help push the limits of what an electric vehicle can achieve on the turns of this legendary course,” said Dumas. “In testing, the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck has surpassed my expectations, so we are hoping for some good weather to try and do something very special.”

Ford’s history at Pikes Peak dates back to 1916, when a Model T completed the climb to the 14,115-foot summit in 28 minutes and 3 seconds. This year, Ford aims to surpass its 2023 record of 8 minutes and 47.682 seconds set by the SuperVan 4.2. The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb will take place on June 23, and fans can watch the event live on YouTube for free.
