The Ford Maverick could make its debut with a hybrid powertrain as an option.
Ford's Maverick teaser featuring Gabrielle Union shows a badge on a tailgate suggesting the Maverick will sport a hybrid powertrain.
Ford will reveal the Maverick pickup on June 8.
Ford has finally confirmed it is working on a new, compact pickup that revived the Maverick nameplate. While we saw some important information in the teaser videos—including the compact size of the truck and that naming conventions will likely carry over—the teaser videos might have more information on second blush: It looks like Ford will launch a hybrid version of its upcoming Maverick.
We can only speculate until Ford releases all the information, but the internet sleuths at Maverick Chat, a Ford Maverick Forum, caught the all-important badge in one of the company’s teaser videos. As you can see at the top of the page, a badge appearing to say “hybrid” appears on the tailgate of the Maverick for a split second.
Considering Ford’s push for electrification, we won’t be surprised if we get confirmation on the Maverick’s hybrid status. We’re not yet sure exactly what powertrains Ford will use with the Maverick, but there’s no shortage of options in the Blue Oval portfolio.
Fortunately, most of our speculation will end soon. Ford is set to reveal the Maverick in less than a week, which means we’ll start to see more technical information make its way to the public.
