Ford once planned to make a Bronco-based pickup to challenge the Jeep Gladiator, but apparently that's no longer the case. Citing supplier sources, Automotive News reports that the Bronco pickup, originally planned for a 2024 launch, has been axed.

The Blue Oval never publicly confirmed that it would build a Bronco pickup, though it has been bullish on building a Jeep-rivaling sub-brand out of Bronco, launching the Escape-based Bronco Sport before the big 4x4. But as Automotive News points out, the idea of a Bronco pickup, while initially appealing, is counterproductive to a number of Ford's aims.

First off, it already has two pickups slotted below the F-150—the Ranger and the car-based Maverick compact. A Bronco pickup would almost certainly eat into Ranger sales, as the two trucks would likely be similar in size and share much of the same underpinnings and powertrains.
