The 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed kicked off today, and while the timed runs don't happen until later in the weekend, one RS200 driver was pushing hard enough in practice to wreck his car into the hay bales.

That didn't take long.

Pat Doran, the pilot behind the wheel of this exceedingly rare and special RS200 Evo 2, came in a little too hot to Goodwood's famously difficult-to-nail Molecomb corner, losing it on the grass before eventually sliding into the wall of hay.

Doran walked away from the incident, but his car wasn't so lucky. The rear shell was ripped off during the initial impact, while the front suffered what looks to be a significant amount of damage.

Driving a classic race car up the most famous hillclimb in the world might be fun, but when you lose it, there are some big consequences. Judging by how historically significant the RS200 is, we're confident Doran's car will be back on the road in no time.

Update 6/30/2017: Not even 24 hours later, the RS200 has already been pieced back together in time for Pat Doran's second run up the hill. Doran was timed this run, and managed an impressive 55.91 seconds without incident. Judging by the initial hit, we have a feeling those mechanics didn't get much sleep last night to make this happen.
