Ford Teases 815-HP Mustang GTD's Nürburgring Lap Time in New Video
The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD appears in a new teaser video about its attempt to set a Nürburgring lap time.
Ford CEO Jim Farley previously said the goal is for the car to set a sub-seven-second time—the first for an American automaker.
Ford is expected to announce the GTD's official 'Ring lap time in the coming weeks.
The Ford Mustang GTD is an absolute unit. The track-focused pony car features an 815-hp supercharged V-8 and a suspension setup that's so trick, it's a treat for any race car fan. However, all that hardcore hardware wasn't designed just for kicks and giggles, it was to help the most powerful factory Mustang ever built to do what no other American car has done: set a sub-seven-minute lap time at the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
While it's not yet clear whether the GTD has accomplished the goal that Ford CEO Jim Farley targeted when the car debuted back in 2023, the company today released a teaser video on its YouTube channel that let everyone know we're about to find out. The 48-second clip features shots of the GTD ripping around Germany's famous 12.94-mile racetrack—nicknamed the Green Hell, as Farley references in the video.
At one point in the video, a member of the Ford Performance team says, "There's no North American manufacturer that has done a sub-seven-second lap yet." Another team member says, "Our mission with GTD is pretty simple: Go beat the Europeans on their turf."
Will Ford get it done? We expect to find out in the coming weeks. Ford also plans to release a documentary on its website and YouTube channel called the "Road to the Ring," which will detail its quest to set the 'Ring record for American sports cars.
