Ford's Everest Tremor Is Another Cool Off-Road SUV America Can't Have

Ford Everest Tremor Is a Great SUV, Not for U.S.Ford Australia

When it comes to off-road-ready pickups and SUVs, Americans get most of the good stuff these days. In addition to our long-existing bounty of tough trucks, many vehicles once reserved for other markets, like the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and Ford Ranger Raptor, have recently made their way to America. Still, some forbidden fruit remains — and the new Tremor version of the Australian market Ford Everest SUV is about as good as forbidden fruit gets.

In Ford parlance, the Everest is something like the 4Runner to the Ranger's Tacoma. Three generations have been sold since the 2000s, primarily in Asian and, later, Australian markets. The current generation has been on sale since 2020, and for 2025, it gets a Tremor edition to match the likes of the F-150 and Maverick.

Like those vehicles, the Everest Tremor is built to maneuver off-road. New springs and position-sensitive Bilstein dampers add an extra inch of ground clearance, while General Grabber off-road tires give the SUV the grip it deserves. A drive mode for crawling over rocks comes over from the Ranger Raptor, and the 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6 featured in other Everest variants continues to produce 247 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. A steel bash plate, reinforced side-steps and a few other items add up to complete a more capable Everest.

The marketing case for bringing the Everest, and the Tremor variant of the Everest, to America is simple: Toyota already does it. While Ford's core off-road lineup is constrained to the enthusiast-oriented Bronco, the Ranger pick-up, and variants of the F-150, Toyota offers the 4Runner as an SUV variant of its Ranger-sized Tacoma while also offering the enthusiast-focused Land Cruiser, the larger Tundra and even an off-road-ready version of the Sequoia.

Besides, Ford also already sells the Expedition here, and that's a similar truck-based SUV proposition as the Everest — it's just based on the F-150 pick-up. The Everest could slot right into Ford's lineup as a Goldilocks off-road SUV; but for now, the brand seems content to sell its many other off-roaders instead.
