If you've ever seen the guts surrounding an electric powertrain, you'll note the various warning messages about shock danger. As hybrid systems make their way into more cars, new safety issues regarding high-voltage electrical systems are starting to appear. Ferrari's FXX K track-only hypercar uses a clever method to make sure no one gets electrocuted by its batteries: A warning light on the roof.

Like the LaFerrari road car it's based off of, the Ferrari FXX K uses an electric KERS-style recovery system to aid the 848-horsepower V12 engine for a total output of 1036 horsepower.

As Alex Kersten of Car Throttle explains, the light inside the fin on the FXX K's roof displays either a flashing green or red light on both sides. The green light indicates the car is okay to touch, while the red light means something has malfunctioned, and the exterior of the car is pulsing with 480 volts. That's a lot.

So, next time you're near an FXX K, keep an eye on that fin. It might save you a lot of electrically induced pain.
