Gallery: Japanese Classic Car Show 2024 Photos
Here are photos of the cars at this year's Japanese Classic Car Show in Long Beach, California.
Richard Randall got this 1997 Nissan 200SX missing most of the parts specific to the SE model, and with a trashed interior. He spent the last few years restoring it to the shape it was when it was "America's new super coupe," as Nissan said at the time.
Randall said the '87 SE V6 was known as a homologation car used for the World Rally Championship. 1987 was also the year they replaced the turbo four for the 3.0-liter V6 shared with the 300ZX, "making this an excellent and highly underrated sports car of its time."
Erik Hansen's 1972 Datsun 240Z sports the L24 engine.
This looks like the Mr. K Z, the car owned and driven by the famous Datsun leader Mr. K when he was in the US. We were unable to verify this.
This race-ready Z saw time in GT2.
Mynor Campos' 1973 510 was in the hands of one owner for 33 years. 1973 was the last year of production, he said. This two-door variant is also rare, Campos said. The odo shows only 57,000 miles.
Check out the engine on Brian Thomas' 1971 510: That's a single-rotor 13B!
Hayden Macklin's 1975 280Z sports a lot of customization: L28ET engine swap, mechanical Airride Suspension, Watanabe R Type wheels, Haltech 750 ECU, BRE steering wheel, with Works Bell Hub, PrsimaLab GT seats, and JDM taillights.
Hans Sempe's 1976 280Z may be our favorite of the show.
Too bad Nissan stopped making the GT-R.
An earlier GT-R from the days we couldn't get them.
Toprank is an international vehicle importer based in Cypress, Calif.
Chris Forsberg is one of just a few competitors in Formula Drift to have campaigned every season of the series. He's always driven a Nissan. So Nissan started capitalizing on that, lately with the Nissan Frontier Forsberg Edition package.
At first glance, from a distance, you might think "510," but it's a 1972 Nissan Skyline. This is Peter Nguyen's Hakosuka.
Nick Fouseki's 1969 Datsun Sunny.
Jessica Carrasco's 1975 Datsun B-210.
The girl next to him had the same T-shirt, suggesting the perfect couple.
Teri DeRouen has this 1997 Nissan Rasheen registered in Vermont and is working on getting full California registration. We wish her well. The car is right-hand drive with all-wheel drive, four-speed automatic, power windows, sunroof, and custom-wrapped headlights and taillights.
Peter Ng's 1995 Eunos Cosmo SX has a 20B rotary.
Here's a car you don't see every day: Thai Vu's 1994 Chaser Tourer V.
Jason Pham's 1998 Estima.
Note the VIP interior
Pham's van from the other side.
Freddy Iribe's 1994 Toyota Hiace.
This 1981 Toyota Starlet was once on the cover of Distort Import. Starlets were rear wheel-drive, making them one of the unheralded fun cars of the import world.
Koshi Funakoshi's 1994 Toyota Land Cruiser has some aftermarket parts.
Cary Miller's 1972 Celica retains the subdued lines that make this coupe a classic.
Chris Millard's 1972 Toyota Land Cruiser.
Monkey!
This Top Fuel FJ debuted at SEMA.
Richard Madlangbayan's 1973 Datsun 240Z sports a 7.0-liter stroked motor with a six-speed manual and VintageCarbon aero parts.
Motul brought this third-gen Skyline C10.
Joji Luz' 1971 Celica.
Quite-clean-looking Civic.
Dean Hanano's '74 Celica RA21.
A luscious Levin.
Edgardo Lim's 1966 Toyota Corona has won many awards.
1981 Honda Monkey.
1974 Honda CB550K belongs to Jaden Santini. Its 601cc performance engine was built by Curt Jordan. "The frame has been stripped down, smoothed out, and painted," Santini said. The original fuel tank has been restored to its original Sunrise Candy Orange paint scheme.
Raymond Diaz' 1983 Corolla was restored with NOS (new old stock) parts.
Terrence M. Williams' 1985 RX-7.
Christopher Lane's 1981 RX-7.
The father-son restoration resulted in this working model of a rotary engine, spining, very slowly, in the trunk.
This 1989 RX-7 Turbo II was presented by Matt and Tina Craib.
Don't forget the RX-3! This is Jose Vazquez' 1977 RX-3 SP with a 13B.
That's Johnny Mayorga's 1995 RX-7.
No JCCS would be complete without a 1973 REPU, or rotary pickup. This one belongs to Golden Sleen-Larsen.
Len Saichaie's 1993 Supra.
The 1994 HP-X Concept from Honda. Honda's first-ever concept car was designed by Pininfarina, as part of its research for a mid-engine sports car that ultimately became the NSX.
Honda racer Peter Cunningham drove this car.
Renae Brock's 1970 Honda N600. This car sported an original Honda two-cylinder air-cooled engine derived from a motorcycle.
Another N600.
And another, with a trailer! The bumper sticker says, "I need a V8 for towing." Hahaha!
This Subaru 360 was at the Concours d'Lemons, too.
Marcos White's 1991 Honda Beat sports a mid-engine 656cc MTREC engine.
Mark Santos' 1995 Subaru Sambar.
The Nissan Pao was only made from 1989 to 1991 and sold in Japan. Now you see them in the US imported under the 25-year law. The 1.0-liter Pao shares a platform with the equally cute Figaro and March.
Richard Maggin's 1991 Honda Accord wagon.
This Integra GS is, indeed, as the license plate exclaims.
Civic Si.
The Suzuki Carry is a very practical truck for the Japanese market. To see one over here is rare. To see a solid gold one is incredible. Note, also, the Ferrari Testarossa-like side strakes. Good for downforce in the corners.
No info on this Civic convertible. Might be a Straman.
This 1995 Mazda Eunos Roadster belongs to Jongjit Wongsomnoek.
Jose Cruz' 1991 Honda Civic Beagle.
Mothers Polishes brought this screaming yellow zonker of an RX-7. Thank you, Mothers Polishes.
Joseph Rivera's 1994 Toyota MR2 has many aftermarket parts.
Tuner Bisi Ezerioha is known for 1,000-hp Porsches and other such tuner wonders. But he's listed as the entrant of this 1989 Honda Civic. It is, in fact, a total tuner build, from forged pistons to Bisimoto Level 2.4 camshafts.
Sid Pleyto's SP Signworks 1993 Toyota Land Cruiser has too many parts to list, but the finished project stood out even at JCCS.
Minh Nguyen's 1997 Mitsubishi RVR. This vehicle was sold in the US as the Mitsubishi Expo LRV, Dodge Colt Wagon, Eagle Summit Wagon, and the Plymouth Colt Vista Wagon. It should have sold better than it did, really. It was practical and affordable.
Likewise, the Mitsubishi Delica van should have sold better than it did. This is Christopher Vasquez' 1997 Delica.
This is about as much as you can do with or to a Toyota Camry. Jordan Kaneshiro's 1990 Camry has what he calls a DIY fiberglass body, along with numerous other mods.
Bet you forgot how cute the Samurai was. Gerardo Montes' 1986 Samurai sports a JA71 grille, Petroworks front bumper, Calmini lift kit, American Racing Wheels, and Doug Thorley headers.
Next to it was Frank Gomez' 1986 Samurai. These things can conquer the Rubicon and beyond.
Another nice Z by the Bride booth.
The 240 SX was one of the original drift machines.
...and here's another one, Stefanie Jordan's 1989 240SX has loads of tuner parts on it.
Warren Jones has owned this 1968 Datsun 510 since 1974.
Raul Santospieve's 1980 Datsun 210 sports the original paint and interior. The price for one of these new in 1982 was $5275.
