It’s always awful to see the kinds of cars so many enthusiasts dream of one day get damaged beyond sensible repair. That’s what this residential garage fire in Oakville, Ontario is all about. The homeowner is obviously a gearhead with plenty of money, sadly losing a portion of his impressive collection in just minutes once a blaze started in his garage.
The return of a stolen Jeep Wrangler has been delayed by a fight with the insurance company.
The guy initially saw smoke coming out of his garage and tried putting the fire out himself. When he couldn’t he evacuated the people and animals from the house before he called for help, says CHCH News. And there you have it, folks, proof that gearheads don’t just care about their cars.
At least two of the seven cars which were at the house have been completely destroyed. You can see the triple car garage had lifts installed and the driveway had a number of vehicles on it outside. Total damages are estimated to be over $500,000 CAD, so that’s going to be a nightmare of an insurance claim.
Fixing the cars that are salvageable is going to be quite the process, too. This isn’t the type of thing we love seeing at all, but at least nobody was injured or worse.
Initially, fire officials theorize faulty wiring in a breaker box might have sparked the fire. A battery is another possibility. In other words, it might not have had anything to do with the cars.
This is a great reminder that if you don’t have an automatic fire suppression system installed in your garage or whatever structure you use to store your rides, that might be a great idea. Too many times we’ve seen entire collections wiped out by a fire since gas tanks and such provide excellent fuel to really get a blaze going.
