Contrary to popular belief, kids apparently are really into classic cars, even more than their grandparents. That’s right, a survey conducted by Hagerty concluded Gen Z is most interested in classic car ownership versus all the other generations, including Boomers. Needless to say, that’s shocked many.

Some people are even furious about the result. After all, many assumptions are made about Gen Z, just like what happened to Millennials and Gen X before them. And among those assumptions is that kids these days don’t care about cars, especially classics.

That school of thought is apparently dead wrong. Hagerty found a whopping 60 percent of Gen Z drivers are interested in owning a classic car one day. That’s almost double the 31 percent of Baby Boomers who expressed the same interest.

We know what you’re saying: the Boomers don’t have an interest in owning a classic car because they already have or currently do own one. Maybe that’ why the level of interest is higher for the youngest generation surveyed, because the kiddies haven’t had the chance to grab one yet, unlike the rest of us.

Or it could be that Gen Z still hasn’t figured out how wildly expensive different classics are, including maintaining and insuring them. When one is young and fantasizing, having a big mansion with a bunch of cool classic cars sure sounds neat. As one ages such dreams transform into more realistic goals.

Another conclusion Hagerty came to through this survey is that Gen Z is slower to learn to drive than pervious generations. We’ve noticed that, as has just about everyone else. But the insurance company goes on to claim that Gen Z is very warm to car culture. We don’t think everyone will agree with that conclusion.
