The Genesis GV60 Magma Is Coming Next YearGenesis

Genesis, now having firmly established its luxury bona fides, is about to become a performance brand as well. Months after revealing the Magma badge with a handful of bright orange concepts, the Hyundai-affiliated high-end automaker has revealed plans to put a GV60 Magma variant into production in the third quarter of 2025.

Details are scarce, but Genesis says that the GV60 Magma "will closely resemble the concept model" shown in the spring. Expect the final car to be low, wide, and accented with aggressive aerodynamic elements. Other details are scarce, but performance in line with the 576-hp Kia EV6 GT and 641-hp Hyundai Ioniq 5 N built on the same platform should be the next step. The Kia won its class at Road & Track's inaugural Performance EV of the Year test last year and the Hyundai is even better, so let's just say that expectation for the GV60 Magma will be deservedly high.

The GV60 will be the first Genesis to get "Magma" branding, but not the last. Genesis envisions Magma becoming an even more widely implemented equivalent to Hyundai's N line, one that should eventually reach every corner of the brand's lineup. Magma cars will be lower, wider, and presumably faster, with extra focus given to the joy of driving. The next car in line for the treatment is probably the Electrified G80, which was shown in Magma concept form in April. That car, since updated in the brand's new signature shade of orange, will do demo runs at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend alongside the GV60 concept just announced for production.

Eventually, the hope is that Magma-branded Genesis products will be seen like AMG-branded Mercedes and M-branded BMW offerings. Building that kind of consumer trust takes time, and that process starts when the GV60 Magma debuts next year. In the meantime, we'll be resurrecting our Dr. Evil impressions so we can pronounce the car's name properly when it arrives.
