Ginetta, one of the world’s largest race car manufacturers, has officially launched the Akula, a 600-horsepower road car ready for both street and track use. First showcased as a concept five years ago at the Geneva Auto Show, the Akula—Russian for "shark"—is priced at £275,000 (around $361,000). With a focus on aerodynamics and race-bred engineering, the Akula is designed to excel on challenging tracks like the Nürburgring and still offer a comfortable drive home.

The car’s design draws heavily from Ginetta’s racing expertise, utilizing technology from its G61-LT-P1 LMP1 race car. The aerodynamic package includes a front splitter, dive planes, a rear wing, and a diffuser, providing optimal downforce. The suspension features a pushrod double wishbone setup, and both steel and carbon-ceramic brakes are available.

Under the hood, the Akula boasts a 6.4-liter V-8 engine developed in-house by Ginetta, producing 600 hp. It’s paired with a 6-speed manual transmission or an optional 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. Thanks to its lightweight carbon-fiber construction, the Akula weighs only 2,623 pounds and can sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.9 seconds, with a top speed exceeding 180 mph.

Inside, the Akula offers a race-inspired interior with modern comforts like an infotainment system, wireless charging, and adjustable pedals and steering. Ginetta will produce only 20 units, with the first claimed by Ginetta’s owner, Lawrence Tomlinson, in celebration of his 20th anniversary with the company.
