Goodyear Launches New Assurance WeatherReady 2 Tire
Goodyear just launched the second generation of its Assurance WeatherReady all-season tire.
Like the first generation, the new version features the Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMSF) certification.
According to Goodyear, the WeatherReady 2 outperformed rivals including the Michelin CrossClimate2 and Bridgestone WeatherPeak during in-house testing.
Goodyear has released the second generation of its popular Assurance WeatherReady all-season tire. As with the first generation, the Assurance WeatherReady 2 is Goodyear's all-season option designed to fit most production vehicles. According to Goodyear, the new generation tire provided industry-leading performance during in-house testing.
Tests were conducted against the Michelin CrossClimate2, Bridgestone WeatherPeak, and Pirelli Scorpion WeatherActive, in size 245/60R-18 105V. The WeatherReady 2 outperformed each of the rival tires in tests for wet handling, wet braking, and dry handling—though, as Goodyear points out in the release, on-road results may vary.
Like the first-generation WeatherReady, the new tire is Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMSF) rated, meaning it has completed acceleration testing in medium-packed snow and achieved at least 110 percent of the traction of an all-season reference tire. The certification makes the WeatherReady 2 an all-weather tire, though it should be noted that dedicated winter tires should offer better control in adverse conditions.
The redesigned tread pattern features a built-in wear gauge so drivers can keep track of the tread life as their tires age. As one of Goodyear's staple all-season options designed for family sedans and crossovers, the WeatherReady 2 is available in 58 sizes, from 16 to 22 inches in wheel rim diameter. It comes with a 60,000-mile tread-life limited warranty.
